Shillong: Members of the Khasi Students’ Union Delhi Unit are heading to the national capital. They intend to join ongoing student protests to demand better educational standards. This show of solidarity follows a volatile demonstration at Jantar Mantar this past Monday.
KSU Delhi president Marbiang Khongwir slammed the heavy-handed response from police. Officers reportedly used lathi-charges and tear gas against peaceful demonstrators. The union leader did not mince words regarding the crackdown. "Such incidents were deeply concerning in a democracy where citizens have a constitutional right to peacefully express their views," Khongwir said.
The union stopped short of ordering members to the streets. Participation remains a personal choice. The group acknowledged the dangers involved in the movement, specifically citing the risk of further lathi-charges or arrests. Anyone opting to join must understand these potential consequences.
