Kohima Science College Hosts 64th Freshers Social

Kohima: Kohima Science College, Jotsoma hosted its 64th Freshers Social on September 11. The event at the college auditorium welcomed new undergraduate and postgraduate students. The vice-principal opened the day with a talk on student development. Student representatives also took the stage. The college handed out awards for academic excellence to top-performing students across all departments.

Special guest Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education, addressed the crowd. He tracked Naga ancestry and current shifts toward digital spaces. Yhome discussed a 10 crore rupee digital project with Google International. He also noted a coming partnership with IIT Delhi. He urged faculty to blend digital tools into daily lessons to ready students for top-tier careers. He said, "local communities possess inherent talents in traditional areas such as music, balancing these skills with modern digital literacy was essential."

The afternoon moved into music and dance. Guest artists Keneisenuo Sorhie, Sammy, and the band Pinkeye performed. A judging panel featuring Ritsala Thonger, Leiwang Wangsa, and Dr. Moaakum Kichu oversaw the crowning of new campus icons. Candidates competed in traditional, casual, and evening rounds. Veisounii Leo and Khumjano Ngullie earned the titles of Mr. and Ms. Multimedia 2026. Dadie Medo and Yangerienla Longkumer took the honors for Mr. and Ms. Fashion Icon 2026.

Twelve finalists survived to the question round. Dadie Medo ultimately walked away as Mr. Fresher 2026. Rovisenuo Hibo claimed the title of Ms. Fresher 2026. The general secretary closed the formal proceedings before the college anthem played. Students spent the final hours of the event celebrating with live performances.
