Kohima Municipal Council Increases Retail Prices for Fish and Poultry

Kohima: Retail prices for fish and poultry have climbed in Kohima following a fresh rate revision issued by the market regulation and enforcement division under the Kohima Municipal Council. The new price list is now in effect and will remain active until further notice.

The hike impacts a broad range of non-vegetarian staples. Borali is now priced at Rs.280 per kg, up from Rs.220, while Rohu rose to Rs.240. Other notable increases include Mirga at Rs.270, local fish at Rs.250, and Prawns reaching Rs.640 per kg. Premium varieties like Hilsa have also climbed to Rs.1,600 per kg.

Poultry markets see similar upward shifts. Live broiler chicken prices increased to Rs.220 per kg, while local chicken now retails for Rs.550. Ducks and pigeons also carry higher price tags, with Raja Hass rising significantly to Rs.3,000 per pair. While the council authorized these changes, some specific fish varieties like Singi and Tangra saw minor price reductions.

These adjustments arrive even as market sources report stable supply chains and steady wholesale costs in Dimapur, the state primary hub for these goods. Despite the lack of disruption in availability, the council maintains that the "revised rates have come into effect" across the region. Consumers must now adjust their household budgets to accommodate these higher costs for essential protein sources.
