Kohima: The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) hosted legal awareness sessions across six Kohima schools on Thursday. Held to mark the World Day Against Child Labour, these programmes reached 845 students and over 30 faculty members to discuss child rights and the NALSA Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children Scheme, 2024.
Sessions took place at Chandmari Government High School, Government High School New Market, Government Middle School Officers Hill, Government High School Midland, Chandmari Higher Secondary School, and Government Higher Secondary School, Sechu Zubza. A team of 10 panel lawyers, three advocates, and two para legal volunteers led the presentations.
The resource persons covered essential topics including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Right to Education Act, and the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. Students also learned about cyber safety, personal boundaries, and reporting procedures for abuse. Speakers encouraged children to use available resources, noting that officials emphasized "the importance of seeking help through Child Helpline 1098 and NALSA Helpline 15100."
The initiative aimed to curb child labour while fostering a safer educational environment. By engaging with students, teachers, and representatives from NABARD, the KDLSA underscored the shared responsibility of society in protecting minors from exploitation and ensuring they have access to necessary legal support.
