Kohima: The District Planning and Development Board of Kohima officially launched its Ward Adoption Programme for Ward 16 on June 10. The selected area covers Lerie, Lerie Chazou, New Minister’s Hill, and New Reserve Colony. This initiative aims to coordinate efforts between multiple government departments to deliver targeted welfare and infrastructure improvements to the local community.
During the event at the Lerie Junction Waiting Shed, MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso praised the collaborative spirit of the departments involved. He noted that while resources are limited, these collective efforts will facilitate meaningful growth. Addressing the residents, he stated, "I would contribute to the best of his ability towards the development of the ward and other areas of Kohima." He also announced that a mega medical camp will be hosted in the ward on June 27.
Dr. Riku Khutso, the EAC for Sadar and convener of the Ward Adoption Committee, outlined an extensive action plan for 2025-2026. Proposed activities range from infrastructure upgrades like solar street lighting and footpath railings to social welfare initiatives such as PM SVANidhi registration and NFSA beneficiary updates. Kohima College will also contribute by offering skill classes and beautifying the local heliport.
Local representatives including Ward Councillor Ane-Ü Khaming and New Reserve Colony Chairman Vikehiekho Kintso expressed strong support for the project. They emphasized that the active cooperation of community leaders will be essential to ensuring the success of these development goals across the constituency.
