Kiphire Police Constable Arrested Following Alleged Rape of Elderly Woman

Kohima: A 34-year-old police constable is in custody after being accused of raping an elderly woman in Kiphire, Nagaland. The incident occurred on June 17, when the victim, a woman in her eighties, was allegedly assaulted by the officer who lived next door. Police identified the suspect as Heluikie Nsanglung, also known as Amos, an armed branch constable with DEF Kiphire.

The family of the victim reported the crime to local authorities shortly after it occurred. Police apprehended the suspect in the town square later that same day. The Kiphire Women Police Station has registered the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically citing charges of sexual assault and rape against an elderly resident.

Medical professionals examined the victim at the District Hospital in Kiphire. Preliminary findings from the medico-legal examination indicated that the constable was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offense. Authorities also brought in a forensic team from the Forensic Science Laboratory in Dimapur to secure evidence at the scene.

The Nagaland Police confirmed that the constable has been suspended from his position pending a departmental inquiry. Officials emphasized their commitment to handling the case with transparency. In an official statement, the department declared: "Kiphire DEF and Nagaland Police is committed to a thorough and impartial investigation. We assure the public that all necessary legal measures and steps will be taken to ensure early delivery of justice."
