Guwahati: Authorities at Kaziranga National Park have extended the current tourism season by four days. The park will now remain open until May 29, rather than the originally scheduled date of May 25, to accommodate a steady influx of travelers.

This decision follows significant pressure from tourism stakeholders, specifically the Kaziranga Hotel and Resort Association. These groups argued that high visitor numbers justified keeping the UNESCO World Heritage site accessible for a longer period. Park management reviewed these requests and decided that an extension would better serve both the public and local businesses that rely on seasonal tourism.

The extra time allows visitors to explore the park and its famous population of endangered one-horned rhinoceroses before the arrival of the monsoon season. Once the gates close on May 29, the park will begin necessary conservation work and preparations to protect the landscape from heavy seasonal rains.
