ICAR Umiam Trains Farmers on National Fish Farmers Day

Shillong: The Division of Animal and Fisheries Sciences at the ICAR Research Complex in Umiam hosted nearly 100 Ri-Bhoi district farmers on Friday. They marked National Fish Farmers Day with field demonstrations and technical training. Experts focused on boosting local production through better breeding practices.

Umroi MDC Isynei Hinge spoke to the crowd as the chief guest. He called for local action. "He urged local farmers to utilise ICAR’s resources and technical expertise to improve their livelihoods and overall development."

Director Dr. G. Kadirvel set the goals for the region. He wants more mahseer breeding and bigger farming areas. He pushed the Aqua Village Model to help farmers get organized. The staff showed off seed production methods at the local farm. Everyone went home with supplies. Under the Tribal Sub Plan, the institute handed out 300 fish seeds to every farmer present.
