Shillong: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma toured Guwahati on Saturday to check progress on key state projects. He visited the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha in Jalukbari first. The site needs a facelift. Sarma wants the memorial to highlight the singer's massive legacy.
The government plans to add augmented and virtual reality gear to the site. Visitors will eventually interact with digital versions of Hazarika. A new committee will oversee year-round cultural events at an upcoming open-air stage. Chief Minister Sarma said the memorial would be redesigned to better reflect the life, works and legacy of the iconic singer, composer and cultural icon.
Sarma moved to the Paltan Bazar police campus next. He is backing a 600 crore rupee redevelopment project there. It will house over 600 personnel ranging from constables to inspectors. The site will include a school, temple, and press hall. Workers are also building a separate residential tower for 42 officers in Panbazar.
The Chief Minister finished his rounds at the Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden. He inspected a 360 crore rupee modernization effort. This includes a new veterinary hospital and a wildlife museum. Sarma ordered officials to consult top vets for the hospital design. He also asked them to check if a train could ferry visitors around the park. He checked on three rescued red pandas during his visit.
