Imphal: A district-wide shutdown is underway in Kangpokpi following the arrival of the body of Haokhogin Lhouvum, a resident of Lasan village who was killed in Tamenglong district. The remains were transported to the Kangpokpi District Hospital under heavy security early Wednesday morning after recovery teams navigated an alternate route due to local obstructions.

Lhouvum was killed on June 9 while working in a paddy field. Survivors reported that armed men opened fire on the group while they were farming. Although the attackers fled, local villagers claimed to have recovered evidence from the site, which was subsequently turned over to the Tamei Police Station.

Kuki community leaders gathered at the hospital to receive the body and honor the deceased. Representatives from the Committee on Tribal Unity announced the shutdown, which shuttered businesses and schools but allowed for essential services and transport. One official statement noted, "Kuki organisations strongly condemned the killing and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, along with stringent action against those responsible."

The murder has triggered widespread condemnation and intensified concerns regarding security across the hill districts of Manipur. The burial arrangements remain pending, and the body is currently being held at the district hospital mortuary.
