Indian Army Sends Emergency Medical Team to Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela

Shillong: The Indian Army deployed a specialized medical team to Venezuela to aid earthquake recovery efforts. Two C-17 Globemaster aircraft left Hindon Air Force Station on June 26 carrying the gear and personnel. The planes must stop in friendly nations to refuel due to the massive 14,300 km distance.

"The medical team from 60 Para Field Hospital departed in the afternoon of June 26 from Hindon Air Force Station and is currently en route to Venezuela aboard two Indian Air Force aircraft," a Ministry of Defence spokesperson said. The unit includes 41 staff members, nine of them medical officers, tasked with trauma management and emergency surgery.

The team packed six tonnes of supplies. One aircraft carries a BHISHM Cube, a portable field hospital capable of treating 200 patients. This modular unit holds ventilators, surgical tools, and its own power supply.

"The dispatch of the medical contingent under Operation Amistad reflects India's enduring commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and its readiness to extend timely support to friendly nations in times of crisis," the spokesperson said. India continues its push to provide rapid medical response for global emergencies.
