Imphal: The Association of MSAP Alumni Manipur joined forces with the Institute of Cooperative Management, the Young Organising Club of Kodompokpi Maning Leikai, and the Forest Department to launch a year-long tree plantation campaign. The initiative, titled Ningol Van (Mekola), focuses on the theme Now for Climate and began today in the Imphal West district.
MLA Thangjam Arunkumar Singh inaugurated the event alongside forestry officials and community leaders. Key attendees included Chief Conservator of Forests Longjam Joykumar and Special Secretary R.K. Amarjit. The project aims to address the urgent need for environmental restoration through sustained conservation efforts.
During the event, Singh emphasized that humanity must prioritize nature to maintain a peaceful existence. He linked recent devastating floods to the loss of forest cover in the surrounding hills and warned that current environmental challenges like heat waves are direct results of habitat destruction. Singh stated, "Humanity cannot live peacefully without protecting and preserving nature through sustained tree plantation and conservation efforts."
The MLA urged the public to commit to long-term restoration rather than participating in tree-planting drives for temporary gains. He argued that active community participation is essential to securing a sustainable future for the next generation.
