Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Assam and Meghalaya, warning of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall lasting through May 27. Meteorologists expect widespread rain and gusty winds to impact both states, with the most intense downpours forecast for May 24 and May 25. Heavy rain is expected to persist in several districts through May 26 before conditions begin to improve on May 28.

Officials warned that the severe weather could lead to waterlogging, localized flooding, and road disruptions. There is also a risk of damage from lightning and strong winds, particularly in vulnerable areas. Residents should prepare for potential hazards like falling trees and landslides while avoiding unnecessary travel during active storms.

District administrations and disaster management teams are currently monitoring the situation to handle potential emergencies. Authorities are urging the public to stay informed by following official advisories and local weather updates throughout the forecast period.
