Shillong: The Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association marks ten years of advocacy this week. Members hold a three-day celebration at All Saints Hall in Shillong starting June 25. The event features a daily Citizens Mela and public dialogues on digital infrastructure and urban planning. Local artists will perform plays and music to round out the schedule.
Trouble brews in Rajabala. Parents and guardians demand the removal of the new ad-hoc managing committee at Rajabala Higher Secondary School. They claim the West Garo Hills District School Education Officer formed the group illegally on June 15 without consulting the community. None of the nine committee members have children attending the school. The parents also challenged the appointment of Lal Bahadur Islam as secretary. They argue his current role as a headmaster at another school makes him ineligible. The petition asks the Director of School Education and Literacy for an inquiry, stating the committee was "constituted without following established norms."
Meanwhile, the ASPF in Kharkutta is fed up with the lights going out. They filed a complaint with the MePDCL seeking an investigation into constant power cuts. The group reports that the unreliable supply ruins local business, disrupts services, and hurts student learning.
