Hamletson Dohling turns down NPP Rajya Sabha nomination

Shillong: National People’s Party state working president Hamletson Dohling has officially declined an offer from party leadership to contest the lone Rajya Sabha seat representing Meghalaya. Dohling confirmed that his candidacy was discussed during high-level meetings involving National President Conrad K. Sangma and State President Prestone Tynsong.

Despite the party's confidence in his leadership, Dohling stated he is not yet prepared to relocate to Delhi. He intends to remain focused on his duties within the Mylliem constituency and broader state-level issues. The leader expressed a desire to prioritize work at the local level rather than moving into national politics prematurely.

Dohling suggested that the party should consider more senior figures for the upper house position. He described his decision as a measured career move, noting that he prefers to advance his political path one step at a time to ensure he can effectively deliver on his responsibilities to the public.
