Guwahati: The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has reached significant new price milestones, solidifying its status as a premier marketplace for high-quality tea. During the recent Sale No. 23, more than 65,000 kilograms of tea sold for over ₹400 per kg, reflecting a clear shift in buyer demand toward premium selections.
Deckiajuli Tea Estate, operated by Parry Agro Industries Ltd., led the market with a line of CTC leaf fetching ₹1,103 per kg. A second line from the same estate secured ₹973 per kg. Joe Louis, the company's Associate Vice President of Marketing, stated that these auction results validate the team's ongoing commitment to excellence and production quality.
Sotai Tea Estate also celebrated a milestone, achieving its highest-ever auction price of ₹889 per kg. Dinesh Bihani, Secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, noted that these figures demonstrate the growing appreciation for quality offerings across the industry.
The regional sector is also benefiting from a new Assam Government initiative providing a ₹15 per kg subsidy for orthodox tea manufacturers. As the world's second-largest auction centre for CTC tea, the GTAC is now looking to expand its footprint in the orthodox segment. Industry experts expect this strategic move to draw more export buyers and streamline direct exports through the auction platform.
