Imphal: The All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union wants a full investigation into the death of Sandeep Rai. Assailants ambushed the 30-year-old at Chepu Yaolen village in Ukhrul on October 10. He died behind the wheel of his Maruti Alto.

Rai lived in Taphou Senapati Nepali village in Senapati district. He was one of nine people killed during a recent spike in regional violence. Conflicts now plague Kamjong, Kangpokpi, and Ukhrul districts. The union demands the state and central governments stop these attacks and restore order.

The victim’s uncle, Suriya Bantawa, spoke at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary. He told reporters, "Rai was driving his Maruti Alto when the ambush took place."

Family members suspect the attackers targeted the wrong person. They worry that their community’s physical traits led to a case of mistaken identity. The authorities have not confirmed this motive yet. The family submitted a list of demands to the state government. They are asking for a job for a family member and cash compensation to cover their loss.
