Aizawl: D. Thangliana, vice-president of the Mizo National Front, declared on Monday that his party stands alone in its ability to protect the interests and security of the Mizo people. Speaking at the MNF headquarters in Aizawl, the former legislator addressed the party's history, starting from the peace accord with the Centre. He noted the early government, dismissed just 18 months into its term, and the party's subsequent rebound to win five of 14 contested Assembly seats.

Thangliana pointed to the 2018-2023 term as a period defined by financial struggle. The state missed out on a projected budget allocation of Rs 2,371.90 crore during the pandemic. Still, the party managed to maintain low death rates despite a lockdown that stretched for more than 700 days.

The government pushed ahead with its Socio-Economic Development Policy. Under this plan, 220 families in the piggery sector grabbed Rs 3 lakh each. Others in poultry and sericulture took home Rs 1.5 lakh each. "Despite not receiving the budget we were supposed to get, we distributed around Rs 975 crore under the SEDP. This was due to the efforts of God and our leaders," Thangliana stated.

Looking toward regional stability, the MNF pushed for reconciliation among the Hmar, Paite, and Kuki communities following a recent Manipur visit. A joint meeting is set for October 23. Thangliana insisted that the MNF stays firm in its own political lane even as a member of the National Democratic Alliance. He declared, "Even though we are part of the NDA, our leaders will never support anything that threatens the security or interests of our land and people."
