Girls Sweep Nagaland Student Fellowship Awards

Kohima: Girls dominated the latest round of academic honors in Nagaland. Forty-three out of 56 recipients of the Chief Minister's Meritorious Students Fellowship were female. Boys filled the remaining 13 spots. The state handed out these awards to indigenous students who crushed the 2026 HSLC exams.

Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education, addressed the crowd at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima. He pushed the students to maintain their focus. He told them, "The 56 students had distinguished themselves through hard work and perseverance and encouraged them to remain humble, remember their roots and use their knowledge and talents in the service of society and the state."

NBSE chairman Rangumbuing Nsarangbe confirmed the state will provide financial aid for five years. Students must maintain 80 percent marks every year to keep the cash flowing. Benchumo Tungoe of Isaiah Ability Higher Secondary School led the pack. He grabbed third rank overall with a 97.67 percent score. Thepfukuolie Mere followed closely at rank four.

Award winners Benchumo Tungoe and Imnayangla thanked the government for the recognition. State officials marked the event with prayers and music before handing over the certificates. Every recipient now joins a growing roster of academic stars expected to lead the state forward.
