Guwahati: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi has launched a stern critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging the ruling party is dismantling democratic institutions through aggressive political poaching. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Gogoi argued that the BJP prioritizes the consolidation of power over addressing the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens.

Gogoi took aim at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming the state government is exerting undue control over the press by retaining oversight of the Information and Public Relations Department. Regarding the state of local journalism, he stated, "There are growing concerns about how long media freedom will survive under such circumstances."

The Congress leader also accused the state administration of shielding corrupt individuals by appointing them to key ministerial roles, citing various alleged scandals including cattle and cow-related schemes. On a national level, Gogoi condemned the rejection of a Congress Rajya Sabha nomination in Madhya Pradesh and questioned the neutrality of the Election Commission. He further criticized Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the ongoing NEET examination controversy.

Despite these challenges, Gogoi remains optimistic about the Congress party's future in the region. He confirmed that the party is conducting grassroots review meetings to reconnect with diverse ethnic groups and stated that the organization is working to align itself more closely with the public's aspirations.
