Garo Hills Teachers Union Demands Longer Mid-Term Break

Shillong: The FKJGP Garo Hills Zone wants the state education department to push back the mid-term school reopening. Teachers currently face a short five-day window after exams. The group labeled this schedule unrealistic for staff juggling non-academic duties.

Educators spent May and June conducting the House Listing phase of the Census. They moved directly into exam season without a gap. This burnout risk remains high. The union sent a formal request to government official VK Mantri.

"A break of only five days does not permit adequate rest nor completion of the above academic work," the FKJGP stated. They argue that grading papers, marking progress reports, and planning remedial lessons requires much more than five days.

The federation demands at least three weeks of vacation time. They want the state to stop piling election and census tasks onto the academic calendar without consulting teachers first. Future schedules need a sanity check from local staff to ensure kids and teachers stay sharp.
