Garo Hills Group Demands Probe into Illegal Resident

Shillong: The Civil Society A·chik Welfare Organization (CSAWO) is pushing the South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to investigate an alleged illegal settlement. The group wants officials to probe the status of Sahalom Miah at Ichaguri village.

Miah reportedly moved into the area four years ago. He currently runs a plantation nursery on the land. CSAWO president Tryans Ch Marak claims this presence puts the identity and land rights of indigenous people at risk.

The group insists these settlements threaten the demographic balance of the Sixth Schedule area. They demanded immediate verification of Miah's residency status. If investigators find violations, the organization expects legal action including a full eviction. Warning of potential "democratic agitation," the group urged the district administration to act fast to protect the constitutional rights of local people.
