FCI Rice Truck Ignites on Umsning Bypass

Shillong: A truck hauling Food Corporation of India rice went up in flames Wednesday evening on the Umsning Bypass in Ri Bhoi district. The driver, Farijul Hoque, managed to get out of the cabin without a scratch. Flames ripped through the front section of the rig at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The truck, registered as AS01FC8674, was heading toward Jowai when the blaze broke out. Investigators currently suspect an electrical short circuit triggered the fire. Emergency crews from the Umiam Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the scene to battle the inferno. They managed to suppress the fire before it consumed the entire vehicle, though officials are still calculating the total damage. Local authorities noted, "no injuries were reported."
