Shillong: A 16-wheeler truck carrying 34 metric tonnes of TMT bars vanished near an Indian Oil petrol pump in Umran, Ri-Bhoi district. The cargo is worth roughly Rs 20 lakh. Guwahati transporter Sanjay Kumar Singh wants the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Meghalaya to step in because local recovery efforts have stalled.
The truck, registered AS01 RC 0846 to Pradip Kumar Yadav, departed Tata Yard in Boragaon, Guwahati, on July 25. It was headed to Imphal. Singh paid Rs 45,000 to the man running the show, identified as Simranjeet Singh, to handle the job. Davidson Dhar drove the rig. The transporter claims he was told Dhar felt ill and pulled over at the petrol station. Then the truck went dark.
On July 29 at 2 pm, Simranjeet Singh called to break the news that the truck and the steel bars had disappeared. Paperwork remains a point of contention. Singh claims Simranjeet Singh managed the transport through a notarized agreement. Simranjeet Singh filed a police report on July 28. Singh followed with his own report on July 30, noted as General Diary Entry No. 13.
Singh sent a fresh representation on October 8. He demands the recovery of both the vehicle and the load. The current files contain no clues about the disappearance or the status of the investigation. Singh stated in his report, "effective investigation and recovery have not been achieved."
