Shillong: Rajya Sabha MP James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma promised on Friday to fight for better pay for Meghalaya anganwadi cooks and helpers. He met with a delegation of workers who are fed up with low wages. The workers explained how current pay fails to cover basic costs.

Sangma agreed to pressure the Union government for an official wage hike. He plans to highlight the financial strain these workers endure daily. Proper compensation is needed. After the meeting, Sangma told reporters, "They have brought their concerns regarding the remuneration being paid and how it is not enough and that there should be a revision."

The MP pledged to act as a bridge between the state workers and New Delhi. He aims to make the government face the harsh reality of these workers. Sangma intends to present their specific challenges to officials to spark a lasting resolution. The delegation told the MP that their work remains vital to the daily operation of local anganwadi centres.
