Shillong: Construction projects in Guwahati and surrounding urban hubs face an imminent shutdown. The Dumper Association of Killing in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district started an indefinite strike this Friday. Operators pulled their trucks off the road to protest an organized syndicate. These groups reportedly demand forced payments from drivers moving building materials.
The strike cuts off the flow of 20 mm, 25 mm, and 40 mm stone chips. It also halts the delivery of stone dust. These materials sustain roadwork and building infrastructure across Assam. Killing sits in the Umling block and serves as a primary hub for these essential construction supplies.
Association members claim they have no path forward. One member stated, "We have no other option but to resort to this agitation because of the syndicate raj." The group insists the stoppage remains in effect until authorities address the extortion. Prolonged disruption of these supply lines will likely stall major developments throughout the region.
