Imphal: FC Raengdai stunned the Indian Navy Football Team with a 1-0 victory at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium on Thursday. The win marks a historic debut for the Manipur club in the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup. Substitute player Amarjit, wearing number 11, punched in the decisive goal during the second half. This strike gave the team their first-ever tournament victory and three points in the Group D Imphal-leg standings.
The club now looks toward a tough match against local giant TRAU on August 3. The tournament group stage in Imphal opened on July 28 with a scoreless draw between rivals TRAU FC and NEROCA FC. Those teams split the points. NEROCA FC faces the Indian Navy on August 5 at 4 pm, and TRAU will play the Navy side on August 9. The regional leg ends August 12 with a final state showdown between NEROCA FC and FC Raengdai.
Twenty-four teams currently compete across six groups in Kolkata, Ranchi, Imphal, Shillong, and Guwahati. Organizers scheduled the 135th IndianOil Durand Cup to run from July 25 to August 23, 2026. The top six group winners and the two best second-placed teams head to the quarter-finals on August 16 and 17. The semi-finals follow on August 19 and 20 in Kolkata and Shillong, leading to the final at Kolkata's Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
