Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation wants the Nagaland government to call a special Legislative Assembly session. They demand action now. The goal is to pass legislation creating the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority. This follows a state cabinet resolution from July 6, 2026.
ENPO credited the state for agreeing to grant legislative autonomy. This move stems from a Memorandum of Agreement signed on February 5, 2026, in New Delhi. The organization noted that talks between state officials and the Ministry of Home Affairs are reaching a conclusion. They stated that these discussions "have progressed positively and are now in the final stage."
The group hopes the upcoming Indian Independence Day will mark a turning point for all involved parties. They previously postponed a July 10, 2026, rally after requests from the state government, the ENLU Convenor, and a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. The ENPO complied with those appeals. They now expect the government to finalize the FNTA structure in both letter and spirit.
Authorities intend to transfer specific subjects to the new entity. The ENPO urged both the state and the Ministry of Home Affairs to hurry. They aim to align the project with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and federal development goals.
