Kohima: The Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) issued a demand on September 25, 2026, for the Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation (ENPO) to appoint Tsangli Tikhir as the interim member to the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority. The council argues the previous selection process relied on a dissolved faction acting without authority. They want the appointment fixed now.
A March 10, 2026 meeting vetted three candidates: T Tsusuthong, who failed age requirements; Tsangli Tikhir, who cleared all benchmarks; and Mark Morekiu. The TTC flagged a history of misconduct against Morekiu, including a 2015 assault on a village GB in Longtsunger, a 2021 tribal expulsion, and a 2022 domestic misconduct charge in Kohima. Records also show an FIR at North Police Station for a 2023 assault on TTC executive Khiungmong and a 2024 assault case against Ritkiumong currently pending at the Gauhati High Court.
Despite these issues, a dissolved team pushed through Morekiu's nomination on September 1, 2026. The TTC formally nullified that meeting on September 6, 2026, through Hornbill TV. The Tikhir Gazetted Officers' Association and the Tikhir Gaon Bura Association both issued disclaimers distancing themselves from the September 1 signatures. The TTC maintains its stance, stating, "Tsangli Tikhir remains the sole legitimate candidate meeting the rigorous benchmarks laid down by the ENPO." They now wait for the apex body to settle the matter.
