Kohima: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation and the Nagaland state Cabinet met in Kohima on August 25. They need to resolve the stalled Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority. Both sides remain deadlocked over the devolution of legislative powers six months after the parties signed a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement in February 2026.
The ENPO demands the state grant the authority the exact powers listed in that original agreement. Meanwhile, the bill remains in limbo. Legislators introduced the draft during the March 2026 Budget session but pushed it aside. Official sources noted, "The establishment of the stalled Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) was on the top of the agenda."
Rumors swirled that a deal was close. No final decision emerged from the talks. Any official change requires a vote in the state house. The 9th session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly starts September 1. Following the Cabinet session, the Eastern Nagaland Legislators Union and the ENPO held private talks in the capital that stretched late into the night.
