Kohima: A nine-member team from Nagaland traveled to New Delhi on July 3 for a one-day Election Commission of India conference. Officials from the CEO office and the IPR Department joined representatives from 16 states at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management.
The training focused on identifying and stopping fake news. It covered deepfakes and misleading content that threatens the integrity of the voting process. Participants reviewed the full election cycle from roll to poll and studied legal provisions alongside recent court mandates.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar pushed for transparency in all communication. He said, "every action of the Commission is based on the Constitution, electoral laws and written instructions issued transparently." He warned that officials must fight social media lies with proactive facts.
Election Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi pointed to the dangers of synthetic content and AI. He ordered officers to counter bad actors using strictly defined commission rules. The conference also addressed voter awareness through Electoral Literacy Clubs to help engage younger voters before upcoming state assembly contests.
