EFLU Shillong professor faces harassment and intimidation claims

Shillong: A 21-year-old student at the English and Foreign Languages University regional campus in Shillong has leveled serious accusations against a 36-year-old French professor. The student, using the pseudonym Jane, claims Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Singh harassed and intimidated her after their relationship soured. She alleges the professor refused to marry her, leading to significant emotional distress.

Evidence surfaced via social media and audio recordings. These files purportedly feature interactions between the student, Dr. Singh, and his wife, Neha Gupta. Students at the campus sent emails to media outlets on October 23, demanding an investigation into the professor's conduct. The recordings allegedly contain threats of murder, sexual violence, and talk of suicide. Nobody has verified the authenticity or context of these files.

Campus director Dr. Mousumi Guha Banerjee refused to speak on the allegations. Dr. Singh did not respond to multiple attempts to reach him for comment. As the situation escalates, students are calling for accountability. One email from the group stated, "They cited purported audio recordings involving the student, the professor and his wife, Neha Gupta."
