Shillong: The Enforcement Directorate seized 40 lakh worth of property from Ismail R Marak. Marak once sat on the Garo Tribal Council. He represented the Asanang constituency. The agency locked down the immovable asset under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Investigators claim Marak siphoned money meant for public work in the Garo Hills. They call the land proceeds of crime. Officials stated that the move is part of, "ongoing efforts to trace and secure assets suspected to have been acquired through unlawful diversion of public money."

The probe continues. Authorities are tracking where the rest of the missing cash went. No further arrests have been made as the agency secures the identified holdings.
