East Dimapur Town Council Mandates Construction Permits for Bank Loans

Kohima: The East Dimapur Town Council has ordered banks operating in its area to withhold construction loans unless applicants provide a valid construction permit. This new requirement follows a meeting between council officials and bank representatives aimed at tightening compliance with local municipal building regulations.

Under the new directive, any financial institution that sanctions or disburses a construction-related loan without this official permit does so at its own risk. The council stated that this measure is intended to promote planned urban development, ensure compliance with building regulations, and prevent unauthorized constructions within the jurisdiction of the Council.

During the session, banks expressed their support for the initiative and agreed to cooperate with the council to ensure adherence to municipal laws. The EDTC urged all residents to secure the necessary documentation before starting projects, noting that the move is essential for orderly development. The council emphasized that the mandate applies to anyone seeking financial assistance, stating, "All proposed construction activities within the East Dimapur jurisdiction must be undertaken only after obtaining the necessary approvals from the competent authority."
