Dimapur Begins Training for Digital Census 2027

Kohima: More than 600 supervisors and enumerators in Dimapur are participating in an intensive training program to prepare for India’s Digital Census 2027. The sessions, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer, began on June 11 at the Livingstone Foundation College of Nursing and will continue in batches through June 25.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang addressed the participants during the kickoff, noting that the group holds a significant role in a vital national task. He told the attendees that they should "regard the assignment as both a privilege and a responsibility."

Drawing from his own experience during the 2011 census, Dr. Chang underscored that accurate data collection is the foundation for effective government welfare programs and national development planning. He instructed the staff to prioritize accuracy when collecting information from households, as this data directly informs future socio-economic assessments.

The census process follows a two-phase schedule. The House Listing Operations are set for July 1 through July 31, 2026, followed by the Population Enumeration phase in February 2027. This upcoming survey will mark the eighth census conducted in India since the country gained independence.
