Guwahati: Dibrugarh police have arrested 10 people and confiscated a significant cache of narcotics and illegal assets following a major operation at the Harijan Colony near the local railway station. Acting on intelligence regarding a long-running drug trafficking network, police teams simultaneously raided several abandoned railway quarters and hideouts to dismantle the syndicate.

During the sweep, officers recovered 79.55 grams of suspected heroin hidden in eight containers. The haul also included 300 insulin syringes, which police believe were used for both distribution and consumption. Authorities seized Rs 4,92,710 in cash, along with gold jewelry and four vehicles, including a Renault Kwid, a Toyota Glanza, and two scooters, all suspected to be linked to drug proceeds.

Dibrugarh Deputy Superintendent of Police Nayan Moni Baruah confirmed the operation targeted an organized network. "We have arrested 10 individuals in connection with drug trafficking and seized suspected heroin along with other incriminating materials. More than Rs 4 lakh in cash has been recovered from their possession. Based on intelligence inputs received over the past several days, we conducted a surprise raid which led to these arrests," Baruah said.

The suspects are being held under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. While the operation marks a significant blow to local trafficking, the alleged kingpin of the group remains at large. Investigators are currently analyzing seized mobile data to trace the broader supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the network as further arrests are anticipated.
