Guwahati: Postal services in the Dhubri district of Assam are under intense scrutiny following claims that packages are marked as delivered without actually reaching their recipients. The controversy began when local resident Ajibur Rahman received an automated notification on May 29 stating his parcel had arrived, even though the package remained missing.
After waiting nearly a week for the delivery, Rahman filed a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Post Offices for the Goalpara Division. He specifically alleged that a postal employee named Atifa Akhtara Sanam falsely updated the tracking records to claim the item was delivered.
This incident has triggered wider concerns among the local community regarding the reliability of the mail system. Many residents report a pattern of delayed mail or missing consignments, with some claiming that staff frequently leave items at public markets rather than delivering them to the designated addresses. Public outcry has led to demands for a transparent investigation into these tracking procedures and increased accountability for postal workers.
Postal authorities have not yet issued a statement regarding these allegations or the official complaint filed by Rahman.
