Guwahati: Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain is pushing the Election Commission of India to launch an independent, time-bound inquiry into the actions of former Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devasish Sharma. Hussain claims Sharma abused his power while serving as District Election Officer. He wants the commission to audit administrative orders issued during that tenure.
Hussain flagged specific personnel moves. He submitted an order dated August 12, 2026, which shifted Land Revenue Assistant Abdul Khaleque from the Rupahi Revenue Circle to the Kaliabor Revenue Circle. The MP argues these shifts lack clear administrative merit. He insists the commission investigate if these moves were made for any extraneous or political consideration.
The complaint highlights potential conflicts tied to Sharma’s resignation and rumored future as a BJP candidate. Hussain previously raised these concerns in filings dated August 26, September 4, and September 6. The commission acknowledged a prior complaint under an NGS reference dated August 28.
Hussain wants the ECI to block Sharma’s release from government service until the probe concludes. He also demanded that the commission secure all digital records and files linked to these orders. He insists the investigation must uncover the role of any subordinates who carried out these directives. Hussain warned that the case strikes at the heart of the system. He stated the matter involves the integrity of public administration and the credibility of the democratic process.
