CRPF Marks Rare Year With Zero Operational Deaths

Shillong: The Central Reserve Police Force recorded zero operational fatalities over the last 12 months. Director General G.P. Singh announced the achievement in New Delhi on November 2. This streak marks a record not seen since January 1979. It represents a 47-year milestone for the paramilitary force. The last operational death occurred on October 30, 2025.

Singh credited the success to better gear and improved medical response. Strategic planning and high-speed evacuation of injured troops also helped. The force maintains a heavy presence in major theaters of conflict. As Singh wrote on X, "A significant milestone in the history of CRPF, 12 consecutive months have passed without any Operational fatality in the force." He stated the force remains committed to national safety.

The celebratory tone contrasts with a spike in self-inflicted deaths. The National Human Rights Commission recently opened an investigation into personnel suicides. Data shows 19 troops took their own lives between January and May 2026. Official records indicate 59 suicides occurred in 2025 alone. This stands as the highest annual count over the last five years. Between 2021 and 2025, 281 personnel died by suicide. Of those, 216 were on duty at the time. The Commission has demanded detailed reports from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the CRPF leadership.
