Guwahati: Congress MP Rakibul Hussain opened fire on his own party members Thursday, September 10. He targeted former MP Pradyut Bordoloi and ex-bureaucrat Debashish Sharma during a press conference in Rupohihat. The outburst follows the departure of two Congress leaders from the Samaguri constituency.
Hussain claims Bordoloi is poaching people to protect his own position. He says Bordoloi is actively courting Congress workers. Hussain also leveled heavy accusations against Sharma, promising to file a legal case against him. He alleges Sharma regularly visits the homes of suspected middlemen in Samaguri.
The MP made a serious charge regarding Sharma’s past as Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon. He accused him of having "push-backed" a Muslim woman to Bangladesh after she was declared a foreign national. Hussain stated the Supreme Court later ordered her return to India.
The government campaign against middlemen drew more heat from Hussain. He questioned the legitimacy of the crackdown. He argued the state is using the operation to intimidate regular citizens. Hussain believes investigators could find the "real middlemen" by looking into the phone records of two current MLAs.
