Guwahati: A large-scale environmental initiative at Chepnapara saw the planting of 10,000 indigenous saplings to honor legendary Assamese musician Zubeen Garg. Held on World Environment Day under the SGP initiative, the event brought together more than 300 community members to establish a living memorial for the artist.

The Manas Maozigendri Ecotourism Society organized the project with widespread support from several groups, including the Assam Police, the Sashastra Seema Bal, and the Assam Forest Department. The All Bodoland Riders Association, Chepnapara FRC, NCC, CKAC, and the All Bodo Students' Union also contributed to the effort.

Organizers view the project as both a commitment to environmental conservation and a way to celebrate Garg's cultural impact. They noted that the effort is meant to honor an artist whose music moved generations of listeners across the state.

"Each sapling planted symbolises hope, restoration and gratitude towards an artiste whose music inspired generations across Assam," the organizers stated. These trees are expected to flourish as a permanent tribute to Garg, reflecting his lasting connection to the heritage and people of the region.
