Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma handed out land deeds to residents of Ronggi Songgital on Wednesday. The move settles long-standing ownership issues for families living there for years. The General Administration Department managed the handover. The Chief Minister confirmed this action fulfills a promise made during his 2018 campaign visit. He noted the delay was finally over.
These residents now hold legal titles to their property. This status allows them to access various government aid programs and bank loans. Sangma stated, "Ia a·a pattarangko suale on·aniara, uni ku·rachakako chu·sokate on·ani ong·enga." He pledged to provide similar land rights to other families in different villages through community cooperation.
During the event, the Chief Minister distributed 21 land deeds to selected families. The beneficiaries thanked the government for the support. The state also organized an MLA Connect program on the same day. This initiative allowed residents to voice their specific needs directly to the Chief Minister and various department officials.
