Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma claims Meghalaya’s low Performance Grading Index ranking stems from sloppy paperwork. Schools are failing to report basic achievements. This gap hides real progress in the state education system.
Sangma spoke Friday at the Sohkha Government Higher Secondary School. He told the crowd the state lost nearly 100 points because of poor communication. He called the issue a low-hanging opportunity. Schools miss out on points for simple things like reading spaces or cyber safety talks. These items are easy to document but often ignored.
"The ranking reflected in the PGI is not a fair representation of Meghalaya’s education system. The issue is not always performance, but how we report it," said Sangma. He urged school heads and officials to fix the reporting process immediately.
The government claims 2,000 schools got upgrades in the last eight years. Secondary exam pass rates now top 95 per cent. Sangma insists the work is happening. He just wants the paperwork to match the results. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla also attended the event. They opened a new library and digital center to boost local learning.
