Kohima: Youths from Chedema and Rüsoma villages gathered at The Naga Kitchen in Chedema on September 11. They attended a program focused on tourism awareness and capacity building. The Department of Tourism collaborated on the event. The venue is currently under construction, with at least 70 percent of the work finished.
Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom started The Naga Kitchen. It previously earned the award for Best Innovation in Sustainable Tourism on World Tourism Day in 2025. This project aims to bring visitors to see Naga culture year-round, moving business beyond the standard festival season. Veyielo Doulo, Director of Tourism, spoke to the attendees. He noted that tourism remains a rapidly expanding sector for the state.
The industry needs more workers. Doulo told the crowd, "Tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the state and called upon the young people to venture into tourism sector." Nagaland currently hosts only seven tour operators. Kohima district reports very few professional tour guides.
The training schedule covered several essential topics. Veteu Koza introduced general tourism concepts. David Angami explained the principles of tour operations and guiding. Abigail R. Solo and Shenochu Lomou taught theory and practical hospitality skills. Nielaphrezo Chakrüno provided the invocation, while Ülikhrei performed a special number. Dr. Keneilhoulie Medom chaired the day’s activities.
