Kohima: Chümoukedima hosted a regional employment event on June 19 at the L.G. Hall in the CIHSR Hospital campus. The gathering took place alongside a national launch of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the initiative via a live broadcast from New Delhi. The local program, coordinated with support from the Press Information Bureau in Kohima, brought together officials, employers, and new recruits to mark the formal onboarding of workers.
Chief Guest Robert Longchari emphasized that the private sector must step up to support the growing number of educated job seekers, as government roles alone cannot sustain the workforce. He noted that beyond simple job placement, the scheme promotes long term economic security through access to pensions and insurance. During the event, participating employers distributed appointment letters to several new hires.
Guest of Honour Avile Vitso urged local establishments to continue expanding their recruitment efforts while encouraging new employees to maintain professional commitment. Samuel Das, also present at the event, explained that the initiative focuses on providing financial incentives to both first time employees and companies that create additional positions. One recipient, John Mark Rengma, expressed his appreciation for the program, noting his experience of securing a position within the EPF system.
Representing local employers, Bendangtoshi Jamir reported that the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research has recruited 73 staff members since the program began in August 2025. He stated, “The scheme has supported institutions in expanding recruitment.” With a total budget of Rs 99,446 crore, the national project aims to generate 3.5 crore jobs by July 2027 to help realize the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
