Cachar Police Seize Large Narcotics Haul in Multi-Area Crackdown

Guwahati: Cachar Police launched a major series of anti-narcotics operations across the district, resulting in the arrest of several traffickers and the seizure of substantial quantities of illicit drugs. The crackdown represents an ongoing effort to curb narcotics smuggling throughout the Barak Valley region.

Officers from the Udharbond Police Station intercepted a truck carrying over 8,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup and 36,000 tramadol tablets. The driver, Gyas Uddin Laskar of Durganagar, was taken into custody at the scene. In a separate operation, Kalain police stopped a vehicle at Digorkhal, seizing 170 grams of suspected heroin and arresting Azaduddin of Natanpur.

Authorities also conducted several arrests within Silchar. Police apprehended Ajim Uddin Laskar near Fatok Bazar with 35 vials of suspected heroin, while Gul Nihar Begum Laskar was detained near the Silchar Railway Station with nearly 300 grams of the substance. Additionally, Sonai police arrested Rashmina Begum and Mamataz Begum Choudhury after discovering 122 grams of suspected heroin in their possession.

All suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the origins and intended destinations of the narcotics. Cachar Police confirmed that legal action against the accused is proceeding under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
