Shillong: A bus crash killed 40 people early Friday morning. The vehicle plunged into a ravine near the Danasar area on the Sherani-Zhob highway. This road sits right on the border between Pakistan’s Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
The bus carried 48 passengers from Quetta to Peshawar. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmad Faizi confirmed the headcount. He noted, "Rescue 1122 personnel are working in coordination with Emergency Services Balochistan and other relevant agencies to provide assistance to the injured passengers and support the families of the victims."
First responders pulled 40 bodies from the wreckage. They rushed eight survivors to the Trauma Centre in Zhob for urgent medical care. Local district administration teams and ambulances arrived at the site immediately to manage the scene. Officials have already started an investigation to figure out why the bus went over the edge.
Road accidents happen often in the region. A coach crash killed 16 people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last May. Another van crash in Swat took five more lives that same month. Authorities are working to identify the victims and notify their next of kin.
