Guwahati: A short period of rainfall on May 23 caused significant artificial flooding throughout the commercial hub of Tinsukia, Assam. The water submerged several major roads, creating difficult conditions for residents and commuters throughout the area.
Students bore the brunt of the disruption, particularly those attempting to navigate to school and college campuses. At the town's women's college, deep water accumulation hindered safe access for students, while traffic movement slowed to a crawl near the ASTC premises and along sections of the busy AT Road.
Local residents blame the ongoing crisis on poor drainage infrastructure and a lack of effective water management. Many expressed frustration that the issue remains unresolved despite recurring complaints. While citizens have frequently called for better urban flood planning, the town continues to face severe waterlogging after even brief rainy spells.
