Guwahati: Bongaigaon officials issued an emergency flood advisory on Wednesday, August 5. The Manas and Aie-Manas rivers surged above the danger mark. This spike follows a massive water release from Bhutan's Kurichhu Hydroelectric Project. Heavy rainfall is also saturating the district. The District Administration and the District Disaster Management Authority warned that conditions will likely worsen.
Officials prohibited all river activities, including fishing, swimming, bathing, and boating. Residents must avoid the riverbanks entirely. The state urged the public to exercise caution, warning, "the flood situation is likely to worsen."
Authorities ordered residents to stay clear of submerged roads, bridges, and flooded stretches. Families should keep children and livestock away from water. Those in low-lying areas must prepare to evacuate if the water keeps rising. Officials told the public to ignore rumors and rely only on official updates to prevent loss of life or property.
