Agartala: A Bangladeshi national was killed in a shooting involving the Border Security Force along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Unakoti district. The incident occurred Friday evening near Latiyapura village after a group of individuals allegedly crossed into India to conduct smuggling operations.

Security forces intercepted the group near the Gournagar block in Kailashahar subdivision, sparking a confrontation that led BSF personnel to open fire. The victim, identified as Mujib from the Dattagram area of Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district, died from a gunshot wound to the chest. While local reports suggest three others were injured during the clash, this has not been confirmed by officials.

Authorities recovered a significant quantity of hand-rolled cigarettes, known as bidis, stockpiled near the border site. Following the shooting, BSF officials held a flag meeting with their Bangladeshi counterparts. On Saturday evening, they handed over the victim's body to Bangladeshi border guards at the Manu Land Customs premises.

The deceased was taken to Unakoti District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Security has been heightened across the region as officials investigate the matter. A spokesperson for the district hospital confirmed that the victim "suffered a gunshot wound to the chest."
